What is Islam-History-Religion

Islam is a monotheistic religion that originated in the early 7th century CE in the Arabian Peninsula. It was founded by Prophet Muhammad, who is considered the last and final messenger of God according to Islamic belief.

At the core of Islam is the belief in the oneness of God, known as Allah in Arabic. Muslims believe that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (PBUH) is prophet of Muslims. The teachings of Islam are recorded in the holy book of Islam, the Quran, which Muslims believe to be the word of God as revealed to Muhammad over a period of approximately 23 years.

Islam is based on five central pillars that form the foundation of the faith and practice for Muslims:

Shahada: 

The declaration of faith, which involves bearing witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His prophet.

Salah: 

The practice of ritual prayer, performed five times a day, which involves specific physical postures and recitation of verses from the Quran.

Zakat: 

The obligation to give a portion of one's wealth to help those in need, which serves as a form of charitable giving and social responsibility.

Sawm: 

Fasting during the month of Ramadan, which involves abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset, to promote self-discipline, empathy, and spiritual reflection.

Hajj: 

The pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which is an obligation for Muslims who are physically and financially able to undertake it. It takes place during the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah and involves a series of rituals commemorating the life and experiences of Prophet Muhammad.

In addition to the five pillars, Islam provides guidance on various aspects of life, including moral and ethical principles. Muslims believe in the Day of Judgment when all individuals will be held accountable for their actions in this life.

Islam has diverse interpretations and practices, leading to different schools of thought and sects within the religion. The two major branches are Sunni and Shia, with Sunnis comprising the majority of Muslims worldwide.

Islam has had a profound impact on societies and cultures throughout history, influencing art, architecture, literature, science, and law. It has also played a significant role in shaping the values, traditions, and daily lives of millions of people around the world.
